Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs

For rapid revision here are three short sessions. Listen to them, watch them, and understand the most important part in the topic.

There is ONE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE IN THE DOSAGE REGIMENS OF ANTITUBERCULOSIS DRUGS since the following videos were uploaded. Kindly note this change.

As per the latest guidelines, the anti-tuberculosis drugs are given EVERY DAY (and not thrice a week).

So the standard doses of these drugs in a daily basis schedule will be:

  • Isoniazid INH (300 mg/day) (5 mg/kg/day)
  • Rifampicin (450-600 mg) (10 mg/kg/day)
  • Pyrazinamide (500 mg) (20-30 mg/kg/day)
  • Ethambutol (400 mg) (15-20 mg/kg/day

Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) 10 mg everyday is advised to prevent peripheral neuropathy likely to be caused by INH, due to its capacity to deplete vitamin B6 especially from the nerves.

The following image beautifully summarizes adverse effects of important anti-tuberculosis drugs and their mechanism of action in brief.

Prepare it thoroughly.
